In Memory of Windy
The Syndicate is more than an online gaming guild. It is a guild about making friends, and it’s a virtual community that transcends the games we play. We forge strong bonds among many members.
Windy was a member like no other. She was a very caring and kind person that everyone liked and that you can find nothing but happy memories and good stories to tell about. She embodied the values we strive to achieve in the guild. She served as an example to all of us on how to give of oneself to help others and make friends.
Tragically, on March 20th, 2002 Windy was killed in car accident. She was a young lady in the prime of her life; full of energy with a zest for life and for taking on challenges and overcoming them. Windy has friends among all walks of gaming life. When her friends learned of the news, it struck everyone very hard. Windy was very approachable and always nice. Her death was felt all across the gaming community. She was there if someone needed help and she strove for excellence in all she did. She pushed herself until she mastered whatever she wished to learn and they would teach others to do the same.
Windy will be sorely missed but, her memory will live on and her example will still guide future Syndicate members about the values of selflessness, friendship and integrity. This poem was submitted, in loving memory of Windy and it embodies what many of us feel towards her:
Her Journey's Just Begun
by Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of her as gone away-
her journey's just begun
life holds so many facets-
this earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away
And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much!
Goodbye Windy. Goodbye Kathy. You will be missed but never forgotten. And you will always
remain a Syndicate member in our hearts.
Many of Windy's friends have fond memories of her and wanted to share their thoughts and remembrances.
They are:
I am saddened by the loss of my friend Windy. I will cherish the times we
spent together, in the game and irc. As she left UO, i hoped to see her in
ShadowBane, as many others have, but now we can't. I will miss her very
much.

Although I left UO about a year before she did, I
remember that she was always around, helping her
friends and contributing to the fun we all had
together.
As most others in the guild I never met her in person,
but I think of her as a friend we lost and it doesn't
really matter whether you live in the neighborhood or
on the other side of the world.
We all miss you Windy.

Windy was one of the first people I met when I joined the Syndicate all those years ago. She showed herself to be a truly kindhearted loving generous person and she will be sorely missed. From an in-game friend she became a real life friend and I will never forget her. Until we meet again my friend... Heaven has a true angel

Windy was a light within the Online Realm. She had virtues, that preceded
her life in UO, by taking a stance against the PKers and took a break from
the game to support her belief for the attacks to stop. It is to bad that
everyone was denied her return to the Online Realm, by her untimely death.
She will be a light that will be sorely missed.
